Draft Advert

Before attempting to make an advert to accompany my music video, I first drafted several ideas of what I'd like my advert to look like. I created a spider diagram with several sections: colour scheme, font, information and background.

From these sections, I was able to create several ideas so I have a variety to choose from. The colour scheme section consisted of blue, white and black, red black and white or purple black and white. I decided to use the purple black and white as I felt these colours contrasted the best and created a likeable appeal.

When deciding on which font to use, I referred back to my Font Experimentation task that I previously did in order to choose an approriate and fitting font for my advert. In the end, I chose the Stencil font which is the actual font used by The Stone Roses on their albums. Not only did I choose this font for that reason but for the fact is was bold and stood out against the background.

In terms of selecting the right information to go on my advert, I researched several different adverts to see what type of reoccuring information is found on them. I found from looking at different advertisements that ratings by major magazine companies such as NME are often found on these advertisements with a one word comment below the rating. Although I did not apply this to my draft advert, I will do so to my final one. I also found that the release date of the product that is been advertised is normally on the advertisement along with a bold picture or statement to attract an audience.

Choosing a background image was quite difficult for me to do. I decided to use a photo from my photoshoot so that people can relate this image back to the music video and recognise that the advertisement is advertising that music video. I manipulated the image so it wasn't a plain, boring image and would therefore attract a better audience.

Overall, I think this advertisement needs a lot more work done to it for it to be accepted into a professional music magazine. For this, I will try experimenting with the advert before claiming it as my final advert.
